Supporting FOSS4G 2017

January 23, 2017

We are thrilled to support the FOSS4G 2017 Conference as a Gold Sponsor this August in Boston! The annual Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) brings together the largest global open-source geospatial software global community. This event gathers developers, users, decision-makers, and observers for a week of immersive learning and networking.

Attendees enjoy workshops, presentations, and discussions, all in an environment known for quality and fun. This year’s conference builds on the strong tradition of past FOSS4G events with new opportunities. Boston offers a fresh approach with exciting features that will make this year memorable for attendees. One specific perk inspired us to sponsor this year’s conference: hosting a pre-conference event during FOSS4G week. While planning remains in the early stages, you heard it here first:

We will host a full-day Fulcrum event on Tuesday, August 15th, at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center.

Over the next several months, we’ll prepare an agenda with presentations from Fulcrum staff and customers. These sessions will highlight new features, initiatives, success stories, and Fulcrum’s diverse applications worldwide. Additionally, we plan to hold special working sessions with business partners and close colleagues.

As we organize this event, we will reach out to our network to learn what interests them most. This unique opportunity allows us to build on a world-class event, encouraging users worldwide to join us. We hope users from around the world will join us in Boston during FOSS4G.

‍FOSS4G Boston 2017

After the 2016 conference in Bonn, Germany, the FOSS4G torch was passed to the Boston local organizing committee, led by Michael Terner and Guido Stein of AppGeo. The committee has been working hard to put this event together and details are being added to the website as they become available. Three notable keynote speakers have already been booked, including Dr. Richard Stallman, Founder and President of the Free Software Foundation. Sponsors are already committing, though there are still sponsorship opportunities available.

The program remains a work in progress, but pre-conference events will happen on August 14-15. Workshops and co-located events will take place on Monday (8/14) and Tuesday (8/15). The main conference days are Wednesday (8/16), Thursday (8/17), and Friday (8/18). To wrap up, a code sprint will occur on Saturday (8/19). The Fulcrum event will run alongside other co-located events, including the popular JS.Geo Conference on Tuesday.

Early bird registration will open soon! Registering early secures your spot and allows you to make timely travel arrangements. Additionally, you’ll benefit from booking lodging and other accommodations in advance. Follow @foss4g for the latest updates and announcements.

Fulcrum & FOSS4G

The Fulcrum platform is built on many open source spatial components, including PostGIS, Leaflet, mapbox.js, and MBTiles, to name a few. Our web and mobile applications include many other non-spatial open source components as well, so we understand the value of open source technology, particularly as it relates to building a viable SaaS product. Our developers have contributed to several leading open source tools, and we maintain many of our own open source repositories.

We are actively engaged in the OpenStreetMap community and are beta testing a new, free product we are launching to support crowdsourcing initiatives for collecting open data, known as Fulcrum Community. Stay tuned for more regarding Fulcrum Community in the coming weeks, and we should have plenty to share with you by August!
