Composite Title Fields for Records

December 15, 2014

Identify records at a glance from list or map view

In our recent update last week, in which we announced support for barcode/QR code scanning, we also made some additional modifications to make it easier to identify records at a glance when looking at the list or map views on Fulcrum for iOS and Android.

When you build an app with Fulcrum you can set a composite “title field”, which sets up what attribute of your data to use as the identifier name in list mode or on the map popups when you tap on a point.

As you can see in this clip, the title fields shown in the list view on my iPhone now displays multiple values, instead of just one. This is customizable from the App Designer, and makes it easier for your field staff to get more info at-a-glance when browsing data on their mobile device.

2023 update – user defined labels on pins in maps

Starting April 12, 2023, EsriTM geospatial information system (GIS) software will provide the default mapping capabilities for mobile devices in the Fulcrum field inspection management platform.

We’re excited about this change. Esri is the gold standard of location intelligence software, with users ranging from Burger King to Cisco to NASA.  We’re delighted to be able to automatically pass on Esri’s pioneering – and powerful – GIS capabilities to our customers.

Even better, using the Esri software development kit (SDK) for mobile devices will enable Fulcrum to have more advanced features more quickly. In fact, right along with the rollout of Esri maps on Fulcrum mobile apps, we’re rolling out a new feature: User-definable labels on pins in maps. With a label — the title of the record — on every pin, you’ll be able to see more about individual records without tapping them. Beta users have been telling us about how much more productive they are, and we think you’ll find this feature useful, too.

What do I have to do to get these features?

Your account will automatically have access to Esri as Fulcrum’s default mapping application on the mobile app, though users may need to update to the latest versions – iOS 4.0.0 and Android 4.0.0 – to see the change. If some of your users don’t see the latest version yet, don’t worry! Our phased rollout should reach all users within the next couple of days.

Once you have the new update, all you have to do is log into Fulcrum and you’re ready to start using – and marveling over – Esri. I mean, just take a look at the beautiful screenshot of Esri in use with the new pin labels – never has culvert mapping looked so amazing!🤩
